Waskesiu Golf Course
August 9th 2007
A remarkable achievement was recently accomplished
by two area golfers at the beautiful Waskesiu
Lobstick Golf Course. Don Sanderson of Saskatoon
(a Lobstick Golf Club member) and his close friend
of over 46 years, Ken Schaaf of North Battleford
SK., were enjoying a casual round when they experienced
one of the rarest feats in golf. Don and Ken graduated
high school together in 1963 and stood up in each
others weddings. They usually get together and
play a round of golf every year to renew their
friendship and discuss old times. The foursome
also included Chris Broten and Orlan Ensz of Saskatoon.
On August 8 both Don and Ken made a hole in one
on the same hole while playing their yearly golf
game. The odds of such a thing happening are 1
in 17 million!
The 16th hole measures 148 yards up a steep hill.
Both players hit good shots at the flag; Ken using
his 8 iron and Don using his 6 iron; but when
they approached the green there were no balls
on the putting surface. After a brief search beyond
the green they approached the hole and found both
balls sitting at the bottom of the cup. After
a moment of disbelief, the players congratulated
one another and moved on to finish the most memorable
round of either of their careers.
This marked the second hole in one for both players
and the first time that two holes-in-one have
been made in the same group at the Waskesiu Golf
Course.
