Just over 100 yards out from the first tee sits the famous Lobstick tree. Arguably one of the most famous trees in western Canada, the Lobstick is the symbol of the tradition and history of the Waskesiu Golf Course, so much so that our world famous match-play event is named in its honour.
The annual Lobstick Invitational at Waskesiu is the largest match play event in North America, attracting more than 700 golfers from across the continent to one of the four Lobstick tournaments: Juniors', Men's, Women's and Senior Men’s. The Open Division of the men’s tournament consistently attracts top amateur and CPGA professionals from Saskatchewan and beyond.
The tournament, a summer tradition in Saskatchewan for more than 70 years, was named after the famous Lobstick tree located in the middle of the fairway off the first tee. The Cree word lobstick refers to an evergreen tree that's had its branches cut off to the mid-way point to act as a trail marker.
The Lobstick Tournaments are open to players of all skill levels and offer participants the thrill of friendly competition. Qualifying rounds are held in all tournaments to determine equitable flighting for the match play and stroke play components of the events.
Registrations for events can be made by calling the Pro Shop at 306-663-5300 (April 15-September 30) or 306-663-5301 (October 1-April 14).
Whether you are participating in your first Lobstick, or are a long time participant, we are confident that you will enjoy the beauty that surrounds you in Waskesiu and the wonderful people you will meet.
