Just over 100 yards out from the first tee sat the famous Lobstick tree. Arguably one of the most famous trees in western Canada, the Lobstick was the symbol of the tradition and history of the Waskesiu Golf Course, so much so that our world famous match-play event is named in its honour.
The annual Lobstick Tournaments at Waskesiu are some of the largest match play events in North America, attracting more than 800 golfers from across the continent to one of the four Lobstick tournaments: Juniors', Men's, Women's and Senior Men’s. The Open Division of
the men’s tournament consistently attracts top amateur and CPGA professionals from Saskatchewan and beyond.
The tournament, a summer tradition in Saskatchewan for more than 80 years, was named after the famous Lobstick tree located in the middle of the fairway off the first tee. The Cree word lobstick refers to an evergreen tree that's had its branches cut off to the mid-way point to act as a trail marker.
The Lobstick Tournaments are open to players of all skill levels and offer participants the thrill of friendly competition. Qualifying rounds are held in all tournaments to determine equitable flighting for the match play and stroke play components of the events.
Whether you are participating in your first Lobstick, or are a long time participant, we are confident that you will enjoy the beauty that surrounds you in Waskesiu and the wonderful people you will meet.
Note to members who have yearly cart privileges: the policy going forward is that for Lobstick tournaments, the member is only entitled to one seat. Any person who does not have golf cart privileges will have to pay for his/her seat for the round.

Junior Lobstick Golf Scholarship
The Waskesiu Golf Course is very pleased to announce the establishment of the Waskesiu Golf Course Scholarship for Junior Golf. The initial seed money for this scholarship has come from the 75th Anniversary celebrations raffle and silent auction supported by businesses in Waskesiu, Prince Albert and Saskatoon.
The purpose of the scholarship is to recognize and promote academics and community involvement among participants of the Junior Lobsticks. Funding for the scholarship comes from annual donations, one time donations and various raffles, draws and tournaments.
The scholarship will be open to entering or continuing students pursuing undergraduate or graduate studies in any program at any post-secondary institution and who are registered to play in the forthcoming Junior Lobstick tournament at Waskesiu Golf Course. The
scholarship consists of up to four awards annually with a value of $500. Selection is based on registration paid in full for the Junior Lobstick, academics, and commitment to volunteerism in their local community.
